GENERAL SCALE RULES: (One Digital Scales can help!)
1. The #1 cause of scale problems is bad battery connection, bad or low batteries, or faulty AC adapter. All scales are tested and calibrated before they are shipped to you. A scale will perform slowly, or read inaccurately when it has low batteries. Please replace or recharge the batteries often (and only use good quality batteries). If your scale simply won't turn on while on Battery power, it's usually because of loose battery connections. Simply check all connections and make sure they are plugged in and secure and all the battery prongs are making good contact. A Faulty AC adaptor can cause your scale to act unstable with numbers "moving" all around. Please test your scale with a good set of batteries (instead of the AC adaptor when applicable) to determine if the AC adaptor is faulty.
2. Improper usage and careless handling and treatment of a scale is the second most common problem for a scale. Just like most products, harsh treatment of the scale will result in a problem. Harsh use includes dropping or dropping things on the scale, banging the scale with objects, getting them wet when they're not meant for wet use. Most of our scales are industrial scales - like floor scales, crane scales, washdown bench scales, physician scales - which means they are meant to be used in rougher enviornments like factories, warehouses, scrap metal facilities, veterinary offices, etc. but basic common sense still needs to be exercised.
3. Overloading the maximum capacity of a scale is the most common cause for an error or problem. All of One Digital Scales products are designed to weigh up the maximum capacity. Although there is an overload capacity built in, the scale is designed to weigh up the maximum capacity. For example, a 5,000lb crane scale is only meant to weigh up to 5,000lbs of whatever you're weighing - be it construction goods, engines or transmissions, or whatever.
4. Your scale must always be on a stable, flat surface for an accurate weighing. The ideal surface is a flat and leveled concrete surface. Most scales have leveling feet of some sort and it is suggested that you use them when setting up the scale for weighing. However, hanging crane scales will naturally weigh straight down because of gravity. Analytical balances that are accurate to 1g, .1g, .01g, .001g, .0001g must be in a very stable enviornment for accurate weighing. The more accurate the scale - as in a digital balance that's accurate to .0001g - the more the balance needs to be in a flat, stable, and non-windy enviornment.
5. Scales perform differently in different temperatures and conditions. Again, most of our scales are industrial scales and specialty scales that are meant for use in sometimes cold and wet conditions. It's important to read through the product specifications to understand the operating enviornment for a particular scale. A washdown bench scale can be used in various wet enviorment likes fish weighing and can actually be hosed off to clean after use in a food deli, commercial food plant or other situation where a regular bench scale cannot. The room temperature will also affect the accuracy of the scale. If the scale accuracy is "drifting", please allow a few hours for the scale to warm up and become accustomed to the room temperature.
TROUBLESHOOTING:
Does your Scale show 8888, Err or a similar error code? This can be a common problem with any digital scale - from a crane scale to a floor scale. When applicable, use the product manual to troubleshoot the problem. If there's no manual give us a call or send an email and one of scale techs will walk you through the problem. If One Digital Scales still cannot fix the problem over the phone, we'll accept the return and fix the scale.
Is your scale only showing "partial digits" on the display? If a scale is excessively shaken (sometimes during shipping) it's possible for the LCD to become partially separated from the PCB (Printed Circuit Board). However on many scales it's difficult to reach the LCD (without removing the cover) and thus the scale will often have to be returned to us for a quick repair. But again, call in to One Digital Scales and a scale tech may be able to walk you through the problem and fix it over the phone.
